A new billboard in Massachusetts is aiming to raise awareness about the dangers of fentanyl — the powerful drug that has killed thousands in recent years. The billboard overlooks Route 6 in Rehoboth, showing the faces of fentanyl victims like Sean Poole and discussing the dangers of the drug. “We were just inseparable,” Poole’s sister, Melissa, told 7NEWS.Sean died when he took heroin laced with fentanyl. “He had been sober for a while,” Melissa said. “That night, he wanted to feel good because he had got a raise and someone said ‘Oh, I can get you something,’ and it was fentanyl,” Melissa said. Now, Melissa is hoping to raise awareness. “We’re losing over 300 people a day to fentanyl and I always say, ‘That’s like an airline going down every day.’”Melissa Poole is not alone in her efforts. She is working with Paula Young, who lost her 33-year-old son, Andrew Santos, last March after his marijuana was laced with fentanyl. “My son’s legacy is ...Changes are coming to some mortgage fees next month

(CNN) — Fees on mortgages backed by Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae are set to change next month, in a plan designed to make homeownership more affordable for more people. Broadly, the fees will go down for many with lower credit scores and will increase for many with higher credit scores. But that doesn’t mean people with lower credit scores will pay less than those with higher credit scores. The changes mean that people with higher credit scores will still pay less based on lower risk to the lenders, but having a lower credit score will now come with less of a penalty. There are many variables that go into the cost of a home loan, including what kind of property you are buying, how much money you’re putting down and how high or low your credit score is.These variables help lenders — and government-backed Freddie and Fannie, which buy the vast majority of loans from lenders — price loans for risk. After starting with the basic, or par, rate, additional price adjust...David Ortiz visits fan recovering from surgery in Boston hospital

Red Sox legend David Ortiz made a special visit to a fan in the hospital earlier this month, boosting spirits for a 19-year-old recovering from a recent procedure. Megan Hebert suffered a serious knee injury after playing soccer and participating in dance programs in 2017 and has had a long road to recovery with 18 surgeries in recent years. She was recovering from her most recent procedure at Massachusetts General Hospital when Ortiz himself dropped by the pediatric ward to say “hello” and pass out shirts. Hebert caught her interaction with Ortiz on camera. “Hey what’s happening, this is Big Papi right here hanging out with my girl Megan,” Ortiz said in the video. “She’s about to get this thing done the right way and go back and play soccer, so, good luck to you.” Hebert said the interaction was an amazing opportunity to meet Ortiz, especially as she goes through a tough time. “I’ve definitely felt defeated,” she said. “Having 18 surgeries by the age o...2023 NFL draft live updates: Ravens take WR Zay Flowers at No. 22 overall in first round

The Mets’ offense finally awakened after going quiet in Queens following the West Coast trip, rallying after a nightmare eighth inning that featured Nationals’ shortstop CJ Abrams’ first major-league grand slam that led a five-run frame in Thursday’s 9-8 win.Mets pitchers hit three Nationals in the eighth that led to the nightmare frame, almost leading to a series sweep to a team sitting at the bottom of the NL East.Brooks Raley entered the eighth with a 7-3 lead after reliever Tommy Hunter hit two batters and Francisco Lindor’s error landed runners in scoring position. Raley gave up a sacrifice fly to Nationals’ second baseman Luis Garcia and hit outfielder Victor Robles before Abrams hit the grand slam. But the Mets, down 8-7, fought back in the bottom of the eighth. Starling Marte singled and stole second base to spark the rally. Pete Alonso, who snapped his 0-for-19 stretch entering Thursday’s game, doubled to score Marte and Jeff McNeil ...Aaron Judge’s injury overshadows Gerrit Cole’s dominant win against Rangers

ARLINGTON — Aaron Judge left early from Thursday’s game with right hip discomfort, casting a shadow over an otherwise tidy 4-2 win by the Yankees against the Texas Rangers.Judge struck out twice before being replaced in right field by Oswaldo Cabrera. The Yankees captain’s exit came a day after he rolled up on his right hand during an awkward slide against the Minnesota Twins but managed to remain in that game. The injury put a damper on Judge’s first game at Globe Life Field in Arlington since he slugged his 62nd home run of the 2022 season there on Oct. 4 to set a new American League record. The Yankees didn’t need any offense from Judge to topple Texas, with ace Gerrit Cole continuing his torrid start to the season with another strong outing. He allowed two runs across 6.2 innings, punching out eight in his first start in Arlington since setting the Yankees single-season strikeout record of 257 there during the same game as Judge’s historic homer...Jets select Iowa State DE Will McDonald at No. 15 in first round of NFL draft

The Jets were rumored to select an offensive tackle during the first round of Thursday’s NFL Draft. But once all of the top tackles were off the board at No. 15, they pivoted to the defensive side of the ball.Gang Green surprised some by choosing Iowa State defensive end Will McDonald IV to add to their unit that finished fourth in the NFL in points and yards allowed last year.Last season for the Cyclones, McDonald was a first-team All-Big 12 selection after he finished with 36 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss and five sacks in 12 games. During the 2021 season, McDonald recorded 36 tackles, 13 tackles for loss and 11.5 sacks. He ended his career at Iowa State with 125 tackles, 40.5 tackles for loss and 34 sacks.Although it was a surprise that the Jets selected McDonald at No. 15, he has all the tools to be an effective pass rusher at the next level. He has excellent explosiveness off the line of scrimmage and his high motor and pass-rushing skills make it difficult for offensive ta...NFL Draft 2023 Live | Teams wheeling, dealing in first round

The 2023 Orioles have shown a knack for early success. They continued it Thursday by coming through late.Baltimore rallied with five runs in the seventh inning to defeat the Detroit Tigers, 7-4, to open a four-game series and 10-game road trip. The victory improved the Orioles to 9-0 in series openers, and at 17-8, they have the most wins before the end of April of any team in franchise history. These Orioles are the seventh iteration to win at least 17 of their first 25 games, with the club’s 1966 and 1970 World Series champions among the previous six.It appeared for much of Thursday’s contest they would not join those ranks. Kyle Gibson provided the shortest of his six starts as an Oriole, giving up three runs in 4 1/3 innings. After Baltimore got two runs back when Joey Ortiz — the organization’s No. 7 prospect promoted before Thursday’s game — hit a two-run single for his first major league knock in the fifth, the Tigers (9-15) doubled the marg...Latest news
