How to watch the Orionid meteor shower Sunday night If you haven’t had the chance to see the Orionid meteor shower yet, there is still time. The meteor shower is expected to peak Sunday evening across the United States, according to CNN, at a rate of 10 to 20 meteors per hour. The tiny meteors are particles of Halley’s Comet, which is currently in the middle of its 76-year orbit around the sun. It won’t pass by Earth again until 2061.The Orionids, as they’re known, peak in mid-October each year. They are known for their brightness, and also for their speed since they travel at 41 miles per second, according to NASA.No telescope is needed to see the meteors shooting across the sky, but clear skies are a must.“Find an area well away from the city or street lights. Come prepared with a sleeping bag, blanket, or lawn chair,” NASA recommends. “Lie flat on your back with your feet facing southeast … and look up, taking in as much of the sky as possible. In less than 30 minutes in the dark, your eyes will adapt and you will begin to see meteo...

Do you hit the snooze button in the morning? A new study reveals if that’s a bad habit Do you set an early alarm in the morning and then hit snooze a bunch of times? Well, a new study says that habit might not be a bad thing.Hitting snooze or using intermittent alarms in the morning to get some just a few more minutes of sleep was the subject of a new study published in the Journal of Sleep Research. The study of more than 1,700 people showed that there were no clear effects of snoozing on stress hormone levels, morning sleepiness, mood or overnight sleep structure.Of those who participated in the study, 69% said that they used the snooze function or set multiple alarms at least “sometimes.”“The findings indicate that there is no reason to stop snoozing in the morning if you enjoy it, at least not for snooze times around 30 minutes,” said corresponding author Tina Sundelin, Ph.D., of Stockholm University. “In fact, it may even help those with morning drowsiness to be slightly more awake once they get up.”The average time for snoozing...

Verstappen earns hard-fought 50th career F1 victory at the US Grand Prix; Hamilton DQ from 2nd

Verstappen earns hard-fought 50th career F1 victory at the US Grand Prix; Hamilton DQ from 2nd AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — In a season of easy victories, career win No. 50 finally made Max Verstappen sweat.Even if it was just a little bit.Verstappen had to work through the field after starting sixth instead of from pole position, then held off the charging Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton over the final laps in the Texas heat to win the United States Grand Prix on Sunday at the Circuit of the Americas. Hamilton’s best finish in five months was wiped out when he and sixth-place finisher Charles Leclerc of Ferrari were disqualified more than three hours after the race for rules violations found with the skid blocks under their cars.Verstappen’s record-tying 15th win of the season also made the Dutch driver just the fifth Formula One driver in history to reach 50 in a career. Hamilton has the most with 103. Verstappen has four races left this season to leap over Alain Post (51) and Sebastian Vettel (53) for third. Michael Schumacher has 91.“It’s a great number,” Verstappen ...

Chargers’ Justin Herbert melts under Chiefs pressure in loss at Kansas City

Chargers’ Justin Herbert melts under Chiefs pressure in loss at Kansas City KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert spent more time looking at the sky than downfield at his wide receivers on Sunday.Herbert was sacked five times by Kansas City’s suddenly stingy defense, and even when the Chiefs failed to get to him, they had a disrupting impact on his game. Charles Omenihu tipped a pass that was picked off in the red zone, and the defense nearly got to Herbert again in the fourth quarter, when his second interception clinched a 31-17 loss to the Chiefs.“I thought we came out well in the first half and moved the ball,” Herbert said. “We have to execute better in the second half. We have to put up points in the second half. The defense made some big stops, so it’s on us as an offense to be there for them.”It was a stunning meltdown by the Chargers offensive line, which had allowed 10 sacks total through the first five games, and only the third time Herbert had been sacked five times in game. One of the others came against Kansas City ...

Mahomes throws for 424 yards and 4 TDs, Kelce has big day as Chiefs beat Chargers 31-17 KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — If anybody should know how to stop Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, it should probably be the Los Angeles Chargers and the rest of the AFC West, who get two cracks at beating the Kansas City Chiefs every season. The familiarity hasn’t seemed to help.Mahomes threw for 424 yards and four touchdowns, Kelce caught 12 passes for 179 yards and a score, and the Chiefs beat the Chargers 31-17 on Sunday to seize command of a division they have won seven straight years. Mahomes also improved to 29-3 against teams from the AFC West, which Kansas City already leads by three games just seven weeks into the season.“I think both Kelce and Pat, when they’re on the same page, that’s a challenge for any defense,” said Chiefs coach Andy Reid, whose team became the first Super Bowl champion to lose its season opener and then rip off six straight wins.“I know they work on it. This isn’t, like, a secret,” Reid continued. “It’s quite a tribute for thos...

Argentina Economy Minister Sergio Massa leads populist Javier Milei in presidential vote count BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — With 76% of the votes counted, Economy Minister Sergio Massa took an early lead in Argentina’s presidential election Sunday, with 35.9%.Right-wing populist Javier Milei was in second, at 30.5%.In order to win outright and avoid a Nov. 19 runoff, a candidate needed to get 45% of the vote, or 40% with a 10-point lead over the runner-up.Because the voting was conducted by paper ballots, the timing of full results was unpredictable. The highly polarized election will determine whether South America’s second-largest economy will continue with a center-left administration or elect one of the right-leaning leaders who both promised profound changes to a country plagued by triple-digit inflation and rising poverty. Former Security Minister Patricia Bullrich, the other right-wing candidate, was trailing well behind Massa and Milei in ethe arly results. In the run-up to the vote, Milei, who has been a lawmaker in Argentina’s lower house of Congress since 2021, was...
