When you envision former San Jose City Councilmember Nancy Pyle, who died last Friday at age 85, you may immediately think of the stylish outfits that earned her a reputation as the best-dressed member of the council during her tenure from 2005 to 2013. But to only remember her that way would be a disservice to the tenacity she showed over decades of service.She may have dressed to the nines, but Pyle fought like Rocky Balboa.It’s easy to forget that the former elementary school teacher, who had a 25-year career mostly in the San Jose Unified School District, twice ran unsuccessfully for the Almaden Valley seat, losing to Pat Dando in 1995 and 2000. SAN JOSE — The massive tech layoffs that have jolted the Bay Area job market have primarily affected non-tech employees of the companies that have orchestrated the local job cuts, a new report released Tuesday states.The new CBRE report — which determined that the Bay Area is the nation’s top region for tech talent — offers a fresh look at the nature of the tech layoffs that have haunted the Bay Area economy for more than 18 months.“Even as the tech sector’s resilience was tested in 2022, the (Bay Area) region continues to lead with the largest tech talent labor pool and highest number of tech roles of any U.S. market,” stated the new “Scoring Tech Talent” report from CBRE, a commercial real estate firm.The CBRE report for the first time examined and compared wages in key tech regions. The inaugural San Leandro Restaurant Week will run through this Saturday, July 22, with more than 35 restaurants, brewpubs and other culinary purveyors holding special events or offering deals.The promotion, presented by the San Leandro Chamber of Commerce in junction with the city, is a competition too. (KRON) -- A Walnut Creek man is facing a slew of felony charges after he attempted to rob an armed Antioch man in Brentwood.Antonio Barajas, 20, was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility jail on the following charges: Attempted murder, attempted robbery, conspiracy, assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment, and discharging a firearm.The charges stem from a botched robbery in Brentwood that unfolded at 7:45 p.m. on July 14.According to the Brentwood Police Department, Barajas and a 17-year-old boy were armed with guns when they tried to rob a 21-year-old Antioch man. The Antioch man also had a gun. "All three exchanged gunfire on Marjoram Drive," BPD wrote. The teenager and the Antioch man were struck by bullets, while Barajas was uninjured. Police officers found three firearms at the crime scene. The 17-year-old boy later died from his gunshot wounds. (KRON) -- Walgreens is taking new steps to combat theft at one of its San Francisco locations. In photos posted to social media, chains can be seen locked around the freezer section of a Walgreens located at 16th Avenue and Geary Boulevard. SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- A baggage cart collided with an aircraft on the tarmac at San Francisco International Airport on Tuesday morning, according to United Airlines. The aircraft, United flight 1107, was parked at the gate at the time. Sunset District high-rise ‘isn’t a thing,’ according to Weiner No one was injured as a result of the crash. The aircraft was subsequently removed from service, United said. The airline arranged for another plane to take customers to their destination.Flight 1107 was bound for Austin, TX and it was scheduled to take off at 9:10 a.m. According to United's website, the flight is estimated to arrive one hour and 14 minutes late.
