A breezy, chilly night ahead AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Temperatures for the next seven days will be more in line with those we feel in late December and early January. We look to the next seven days being forecast with most highs in the mid/upper 50s to low/mid 60s.Wind gusts have exceeded 30 mph in some cities so far today. The gusty winds will continue through the middle of the afternoon at 20 to 30 mph before easing off once the sun goes down.Strong north winds continue through late this afternoonThis afternoon's forecast challenge is when the overcast will start to clear. Texas State Parks System celebrates 100 years with holiday ornament TEXAS (KXAN) -- To commemorate its 100th anniversary, the Texas State Parks System debuted its centennial-themed holiday ornament.The ornament went on sale Monday and retails for $19.95 plus tax. It depicts the state of Texas, with dots representing each of the state system's 89 parks, per a release. The two-decade Texas State Parks ornament tradition began back in 2002, with each year's ornament "featuring natural, cultural and historical resources the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department protects," the release added. Ornaments typically depict wildlife scenery, plants and some of the recreational activities visitors to the parks can enjoy, per the release. How Austin-based company uses AI to detect wildfires AUSTIN (KXAN) -- After a busy wildfire season in Central Texas, the developer behind an automatic wildfire detection system relocated its headquarters to Austin and is expanding its resources to help in wildfire prevention efforts. SmokeD System Inc., founded in Poland, launched four years ago before relocating its operations to the Texas capital in September.The company uses artificial intelligence in its devices that are then installed as antenna systems on large towers or buildings. Amsterdam man pleads guilty to multiple drug charges ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A 34-year-old Amsterdam man is facing time in prison after pleading guilty to a drug trafficking conspiracy. Bernardo Tovar admitted he planned to distribute counterfeit oxycodone pills containing fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamine. As part of the plea deal, Tovar also said he possessed over 160 grams of fentanyl, other narcotics, and a loaded handgun to protect his drugs and proceeds.
